Show Report From Sponsored Rider Jess Storrar
Hello!! So, I’m writing this blog still on a bit of a high because hector and I had our first win yesterday!! We were in the novice at homme house and he put in a fabulous performance in all phases to come out on top! It feels like a massive confidence boost for us as we’ve had a bit of an up and down year since Hartpury this time last year! I think the fall I had there really knocked both of our confidences without me completely realising it at first.
I’ve spent a lot of time jump training with him over the last few months and now it feels like it’s starting to pay off so hopefully we are back on track! My aim with him this year is another 1* and possibly back up to intermediate.
I lost the ride on jelly at the start of the summer which was a huge blow to me as she was like one of my own for five years. But sadly that’s the way it goes when you don’t own the horses you ride!
One door closes and another opens however, and I have a new ride in the form of Mister Kai. AKA Bruno (the brute) he belongs to a friend who I’ve ridden for a long time now. He’s 8 years old, a very good hunter/jumper. Hasn’t evented much previously but has taken it all in his stride so far! We have struggled with his dressage as he just finds it so difficult and can’t understand why he can’t just be let loose on the cross country! He is a total cross country MACHINE. So far he’s done a BE90 at Chepstow and another at Dauntsey where we were placed 9th. He was also at homme with me yesterday and stepped up to 100 for the first time. He was totally cool about it and cruised around the cross country like an absolute pro. I’m a little bit excited about this one!
Both boys are next out at Treborough Hill at the end of the month so looking forward to that!
